Docobo, a UK medical device and eHealth company that supplies telehealth solutions to enable community care and improve the quality of life of patients, launched its doc@HOME® telehealth clinical infrastructure and its CAREPORTAL®and HealthHUB® devices at this year’s Hospitalar fair (22-25 May) in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

According to some research, unit shipments of telehealth equipment worldwide are expected to total $990 million by 2015, and by 2020, could top $6 billion, with North and South America expected to contribute more than 30 percent of the total.

Operating in a market that is one of the fastest growing in the healthcare sector, Docobo’s directors are hoping to form a number of commercial partnerships with new customers and distributors and manufacturers from Brazil, South America and the wider region over the course of the fair.

doc@HOME® is Docobo’s telehealth service currently in commercial use with the UK NHS, Australia and New Zealand. It is an integrated solution for the management of patients with long term conditions or episodic events in the home and other locations remote from their centre of care. The service provides the means for the secure collection and analysis of essential patient related data, in the home and other locations remote from the clinician’s office, via a secure web server that links to relevant healthcare providers.

The service is applicable to any patients in the community with an ongoing requirement to monitor a medical condition (whether long-term or episodic), and results in both improved patient care and enhanced resource efficiency for the purchasing healthcare provider.

The Docobo CAREPORTAL® and HealthHUB® hand held devices are used by patients in their own homes to provide clinical monitoring and capturing early indicators of change in health status, and able to help patients with conditions such as cardiac and respiratory disease, asthma, diabetes, dementia and neurological diseases. They link with doc@HOME® to provide care providers with a complete view of a patient’s status and progress.

Docobo was among 13 companies from the UK exhibiting at Hospitalar, thanks to support from UK Trade & Investment and MedilinkUK.

Adrian Flowerday, Managing Director of Docobo Ltd, said: “We are delighted to be introducing our products to Hospitalar, which is one of the best platforms for exhibiting healthcare technology across the world

“Telehealth has the ability to reduce the burden on resources of healthcare providers related to long term care management, which makes our technology a very attractive proposition, and we look forward to supporting providers to develop solutions that meet local needs.

“But just as importantly, telehealth can also significantly improve an individual’s health and quality of life. Simple and routine tasks that would otherwise be carried out by a GP or nurse at the local surgery or hospital can be performed by the patient in the comfort of their own home, meaning greater autonomy and the ability to take greater control of their own health.”
