The Brazilian Health Ministry to Spend R$47.6 million on University Hospitals

Generales

Order No. 1979, published on September 13th in the Official Bulletin (DOU) orders the transfer of R$47.6 million for hospitals linked to five federal universities. The beneficiaries are part of the National Program for Restructuring University Hospitals (Rehuf), developed and financed by the Ministries of Health and Education. The money transferred to each hospital will depend on the working plans, terms of reference and projects presented by the institutions to meet the policy priorities of the Ministry of Health.

According to the Order, the release of funds is subject to confirmation – from the hospitals – of their need for immediate payment in order not to endanger the cash flow of the National Health Fund (FNS).

Restructuring: Created in 2010, the program’s objective is to improve hospital management, purchase equipment and finance construction. In 2011 the Ministry of Health transferred R$1.9 billion for university hospitals for production services and other forms of incentive, in addition to the Rehuf resource.
