The Hospitalar Digital Heath seminar took place during the twentieth edition of the Hospitalar fair in Sao Paulo.

The event, which was aimed at healthcare and municipal planning professionals debated the value to the professional of remote technologies and education in the sector.

The session on technological resources was aimed at demonstrating the solutions that already exist as well as different ways of implementing them. The development manager José Bruzadin presented Intel’s solutions for telemedicine and telehealth, noting that “every country has the same challenge today: to provide healthcare solutions anywhere at any time.”

Interactive learning environments were one of the focuses of the speaking professor Dr. Chao Lung Wen, head of the telemedicine discipline at FMUSP. Wen asserted that “education should be free at any time and place.” The professor emphasized the importance to healthcare professionals of continuous updates in the area.

On the use of electronic health records, the professor noted their advantages, which included Security, Standardization of Information, and Ability to Share Data. Wen also spoke about the project of developing a social network for the exchange of ideas between professionals in the e-health segment.

The doctor Katia GalvaneLuiz, manager of the e-Health business division at Telefónica Vivo, spoke about the company’s development in that area. She noted that “Accessibility in healthcare can reduce distances and resolve problems with demand”. The executive also presented Vivo’s products in the e-health segment such as Vivo Medical Imaging Systems which, after capturing and reading the images, makes them available in a cloud environment, making remote diagnosis and exchange of medical opinions possible.

In addition, Katia explained how Vivo Family Health Management arose after a meeting at the Hopsitalar fair the previous year when a municipal health secretary from the interior asked for a solution that could make the Family Health program, created to organize the government’s Basic Care services, mobile. The program’s agents work in remote areas with heavy, time-consuming forms. The executive detected an opportunity for telecommunications and decided to place the technology in the hands of the agents. Thus arose the new product, which in addition to providing educational content for professional training, has a web-based schedule and offers bio-measurements and video conferencing for healthcare professionals. “Accessibility is our mantra”, summarized the manager.

The Healthcare Director for Microsoft in Latin America, FlavioCalonge, used his time to speak about three current trends in e-health:

-Data explosion

-Cloud-based information

-The use of mobile devices

Colange stated that all the countries of Latin America are pursuing the same objectives: to provide more healthcare, more extensively and to more people – and technology is one of the ways in which these aims can be achieved. On the barriers to the application of certain technologies, Calonge reminded his audience of a relevant generational issue, as in the last five years the manner in which people approach healthcare has seen great change. The specialist’s talk ended with the importance of the use of social networks in the sector to study the feelings of patients towards hospitals and medical services.

At the end of the event the panel shared their experiences with the implementation of technologies at their institutions. Also participating in the event were Doctor Waleska Santos, President of the Hospitalar Fair and Forum, Giovanni Guido Cerri, Secretary of State for Health in Sao Paulo, Ana Estela Haddad from the Sao Paulo prefecture, HeiderAurélio Pinto, Director of the Department for Basic Care in the National Secretariat for Healthcare at the Ministry of Health, and Antonio Valente, President of the Telefónica Vivo Group.
