Saydex and Vademecum International Form a Partnership

Noticias corporativas

Saydex is a Chilean company specialized in medical IT that offers its services to the healthcare world. It is a leader in the field in Chile and throughout the Region.

8.5 million of the health records of the 12 million users treated by public healthcare in Chile are managed by Saydex at the primary care level.

In the case of secondary (specialized) care the company works with 14 of the 100 mid- and high- complexity hospitals, and 35 smaller, less complex hospitals.

It is thus the company with the greatest successful coverage in Chile in the provision of applications with Electronic Health Records.

This information is provided by Juan Rodríguez, the general manager of Saydex, who goes on to point out that there is a major, maturing space in the Chilean market, where IT projects have expanded and these tools are being adopted.

“It is very important to have a database of pharmacological information such as Vademecum International so we made contact with them to establish a partnership between Saydex and Vademecum International which we are now energetically promoting,” he explains.

The Saydex-Vademecum International Alliance

The partnership between both entities arises from the demand for and the need in the Chilean market of having the relevant information available for electronic prescriptions of medications “and the two companies are both committed to that goal,” has says.  “Last year we started to work on the partnership and we are now presenting Vademecum International’s solution, incorporating it into our system in two tenders that are underway but the idea is to incorporate the Vademecum International System – Vademecum Data Solutions – in 13 more hospitals; all of which are currently in service.”

The Chilean market is small but very stable and safe, with an extremely transparent structure. Thus what is happening in Chile is very well regarded in the Region (Latin America).

It is for this reason that Saydex is already making incursions to expand its business to other countries in the Region, and its partner Vademecum International  is involved in the internationalization process, “given that Vademecum International provides the IT tools that we supply and install with added value,” says the head of the Chilean company.

The Process of Internationalization in the Region

As its director mentioned, Saydex has business prospects in several Latin American countries such as Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil. Following the success of Saydex’s projects in Chile, the company has been invited by different forums to share their career and experience. “This is opening up business opportunities for us, and we’re working on developing them,” he says. These are also opportunities for his travel companion, Vademecum International.

Cooperation with other Spanish Companies

Saydex has its own tools, such as Rayen and Rayen Plus, developed for the primary care and less complex hospital segment but, as Juan Rodríguez admits, it lacks a more powerful tool that can be used in mid- and high complexity hospitals.

“Microsoft helped us in the search process for an ideal partner and we eventually found the Florence system, which is used in the hospital concessions that make up the Ribera Salud Group in the Valencian Community in Spain. We believe that the Florence tool is very well suited to the Latin American market (especially Chile) and thus started upon the process of forming a partnership and transferring the system. It has now been fully up and running for over two years,” he explains.

Thanks to the inclusion of the Spanish Florence system within the range of Saydex solutions, a few months ago the software company obtained the tender for a second concession hospital in Chile, the Carmen Dr. Luis Valentín Ferrada Hospital, in Maipú, where it is also incorporating Vademecm International’s pharmacological information system.

Spanish-Latin American Cooperation

This example of transatlantic cooperation is just one of many that occur every day on both sides of the Atlantic. Juan Rodríguez believes that these partnerships are very beneficial “and the results show us that this is true, as there are undoubtedly many different synergies (the language and much more)”.

He also notes that although the procedures and protocols of healthcare are relatively similar everywhere, “our Spanish partners have made a tremendous effort to place the systems in each country, not just adapting to the distinctive terminology of each culture, but also addressing the rules of business and their own processes, in this case Chilean hospitals, with plenty of success.

“So we see it as a virtuous relationship with us both making important contributions.

In fact, this has been the experience with Florence: we have each provided knowledge and met the need to improve and optimize the system, including the Spanish version, where we have contributed to improving the design and analysis for example, and also I hope that the new partnership with Vademecum International will result in reciprocal contributions, not just in terms of business, but also content.”
