The 2014 Carlos Slim Awards in health call for nominations

Generales

Each year, the Carlos Slim Awards in Health are granted in recognition of individuals and institutions that are committed to improving the health of Latin American populations and consequently, facilitate the generation of solutions to address the main public health challenges that Latin America is facing. These solutions may be a product of research efforts, innovations in healthcare or development of effective implementation strategies and public goods.

The Carlos Slim Health Awards are granted annually in the following two categories.

The category for Life Achievement in Research honors individuals dedicated to health research whose work has contributed to the generation of solutions aimed at the major public health challenges in the region. This award is granted to researchers acknowledged by the international scientific community, who have worked in the Latin America region and whose results have been successfully applied in effectively reducing gaps in public health matters.

The second category is for Outstanding Institution. This award honors non-profit Latin American organizations whose programs, whether of an academic or field nature, have contributed to the improvement of population health in the region. These contributions can be in the areas of health care, prevention, research or education and training of human resources.

In the case of the Carlos Slim Award for Research Career, nominees must be native or permanent residents of any country within the Latin America and Caribbean region. For the Carlos Slim Award for Outstanding Institution, nominated institutions shall be constituted in a country of the Latin America and Caribbean region.

Award-winners will be honored at the 2013 Carlos Slim Awards in Health ceremony in March 2014 in Mexico City.
