The European Commission is to finance a project known as Equity-LA II which seeks to study the impact of care strategies in Integrated Healthcare networks (IHN) in Latin America.

This research follows on from Equity-LA – which focused on an analysis of access and coordination of healthcare service networks in Brazil and Colombia – and extends it to include four countries with different kinds of healthcare systems: Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay.

María Luisa Vázquez, the project coordinator, is a specialist in public healthcare services in the region and on May 6 she visited Rosario, in Santa Fe Province, which will soon be the base for Equity-LA II in Argentina.

According to the Local Secretary for Public Health, Leonardo Caruana, the objective is to study the Rosario healthcare system through the way it treats patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic pulmonary disease.

The Universidad Nacional de Rosario and the Instituto de la Salud Juan Lazarte will be working with Equity-LA II, which has adopted an experimental design to evaluate complex interventions with a focus on research and participative activity.
