Catalonia Approves the First Ever Mobility Plan in Europe

Movilidad (mHealth)

The government of the Generalitat de Catalunya has approved the ‘mHealth Cat’ mobility plan, the first strategy in Europe that seeks to facilitate the transformation of healthcare and social services, improve people’s health and wellbeing and contribute to the sustainability of the system.

The objective of the initiative is to provide healthcare services and wellbeing though technologies for smartphones, tablets and laptops. mHealth.cat will be coordinated by the TICsalut Foundation and be supported by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCB).

With this plan, the Catalan government is seeking to create a reliable environment for all its mobility tools such as patient tele-monitoring apps and tools for patients with chronic pathologies as well as others that can help citizens to access these services.

It will thus develop a range of applications for the health sector and social services, which must go through an accreditation and certification process.

Doctors, nurses and social service agents will be able to recommend these tools to every citizen that comes into contact with health or social services. A person with diabetes, for example, will be able to access support tools that can help them to treat ulcers, and find advice about diet and disease monitoring and remote medication services.

According to the Generalitat, mHealth.cat will help to provide faster and more intelligent medical care, with personalized, proactive and predictive services that provide greater autonomy and inculcate citizens with greater responsibility for their health.
