In the United States, 43% of medical information searches were made from a mobile telephone compared to 27% made from a desktop computer connected to the Internet. These statistics were presented by Ángel Díaz Alegre, a founding partner of iDoctus, at Mobile Health: Successful Case Studies in mobile eHealth Solutions, a conference held today in Madrid.
Spanish doctors have a favorable attitude to technological innovation. 71% of doctors believe that Information and Communications Technology in Healthcare will have a positive effect, led by developed countries, according to a recent study by Accenture. Spain also leads Europe in terms of penetration of smartphones and tablets. Proof of this favorable attitude towards innovation is that the application iDoctus, recently launched on the market, is already being used by approximately 5000 doctors, including members of leading medical-scientific communities in Spain, as a tool for supporting decision making and minimizing medication errors. During his presentation, Díaz Alegre explained that part of the success of iDoctus is related to the time savings of up to 100 minutes a week reported by doctors from their professional practice, as well as the fact that it offers a continuously updated medication database. In addition, 43% of the doctors who participated in the iDoctus pilot program believe that the tool improves safety at work and 94% prefer a single application that offers all possible functions. iDoctus is the first mobile application for clinical support in Spain that covers all facets of the daily work of healthcare professionals in each specialty.
