On September 25th, Chile oficially entered the IHTSDO (International Health Terminology Development Organization), the international organization that maintains and updates SNOMED-CT. It thus became the twenty-fifth country to apply health coding policies based on multilingual clinical terminology.
In addition to supporting the SIDRA (Care Network Information System) strategy promoted by the Chilean Ministry of Health, entry will encourage the implementation of technology throughout the health sector.
The South American country will be able to use the nomenclature throughout the country for free. And it thus becomes the second Latin American country to obtain membership – Uruguay joined the organization last year.
In a few months the organizations interested in using the standard will be able to download the SNOMED-CT content from the web page of the Oficina Central de Informática en Salud (Central Office for Health IT).
