Ten Telemedicine Units to be Incorporated in Querétaro

Telemedicina

“Shortly we will have 10 more telemedicine units in operation for specialist consults in areas such as Jalpan, Arroyo Seco, Peñamiller and Pinal de Amoles and we are going to increase coverage greatly in 18 municipalities,” said Mario César García Feregrino, the Secretary of Health in Querétaro, México.

The initiative will be implemented to more effectively disperse the department’s services. The incorporation of ten new telemedicine units will help patients to avoid having to go to the capital for a medical consult and obtain a diagnosis.

Using modern technology with coders, decoders and high definition flat screens, doctors from different specialties – such as ophthalmology, otolaryngology, internal medicine, integrated medicine and surgeons – can perform remote consults and provide proper treatment to remote communities.

“The most important thing is that patients won’t have to travel. We are going to implement the reference and counter-reference and data transfer and transmission systems at the place in question,” said García Feregrino.

At the main hospital facilities, doctors will be able to observe patients from different municipalities through technology and check vital signs, analyze electrocardiograms, tomograms, ultrasounds and X-rays.

“I think that we’re going to be one (of the states) in the country with the most coverage in this area,” the official concluded.
