Since the implementation of the “Telehealth” program in the healthcare jurisdictions of Mante and Altamira (Mexico) over 27 thousand remote consults were held in difficult to access areas.
The Secretary of Health, Norberto Treviño García Manzo, hailed the impact of the project, saying: “As part of these activities, 10,668 consults and inter-consults have been delivered, 7926 laboratory tests have been made, and 1669 X-Ray, Ultrasound and CAT scans have been taken.”
In addition, in the rural communities that do not have a hospital unit nearby, 7369 products – medications and treatment materials – were delivered.
The program, implemented by the Government of Tamaulipas in 2013, makes it possible for citizens to access specialized second and third level medical care via real-time consults without any need to move to another location.
As Treviño García Manzo reported, the results obtained so far have allowed regional hospitals to reduce external consults by 6% and emergency consults by 8%.
“The majority of the benefits were related to pediatric, obstetric, nutritional and psychological care,” said the Secretary of Health.
