The Dr. Sótero del Rio Hospital has announced the implementation of the Electronic Health Record, which will make it possible to share patients’ healthcare information between different sectors of the healthcare institution.
The Pulso project was designed over seven months by clinical professionals and informaticians to be integrated with the other digital platforms that were already present at the hospital. Now it will be possible to perform several functions from a single location: request and view imaging tests, issue prescriptions for serious and chronic conditions, gather emergency care information and identify hospitalization epicrises, among other options.
The head of the initiative, Daniel Waman, said: “The local development has allowed us to implement rapid change with regard to the requirements for creating a tool. We have adjusted the schedule according to the needs of the clinical professionals themselves as they are the ones who use the electronic health records.”
In addition, he explained that professionals at the Chilean hospital will have online access to the user’s clinical information regardless of where they are being treated (in a hospital or as an outpatient).
The implementation of the Dr. Sótero del Rio Hospital is part of a the ministerial SIDRA (Care Network Information System) strategy whose purpose is to informatize all healthcare processes.
“It is fundamental that the Care Complex be informatized with Pulso as it is the largest healthcare establishment in the Care Network. The key is integration of systems in order to have online information available and transparent to the patient,” said Juan Cristóbal Morales, a SIDRA coordinator.
As Morales noted, the Pulso project will make it possible to connect the patient’s treatment to the APS (Primary Healthcare Network).
