At the Apple application developer conference held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the American company presented HealthKit, a healthcare application.
The mHealth tool will be available to users from the third quarter of this year. The announcement was made by the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, and the Vice-President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, during the presentation of the iOS8 system for telephones and tablets and Yosemite for Macs.
HealthKit shall be included in the new operating system and will be able to gather and analyze health data such as medical histories, blood pressure, weight and blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It will also be prepared to monitor vital signs and allow users to carry a digital card with essential healthcare information for emergencies, such as blood type and major allergies.
To put the finishing touches to the application, Apple will work with the Mayo Clinic and Nike Inc.
The development of the software and innovative apps such as HealthKit, is an attempt by the company to show that it can continue at the cutting edge of innovation in spite of the death of the founder and previous CEO Steve Jobs in October 2011.
