On the 25th anniversary of its founding on the 19th November, 1986, the Brazilian Society of Healthcare Information Technology attracted a large number of participants to its event in Brazil, including prestigious scientists, professionals and IT industry representatives.
The president of the SBIS, Claudio Giuliano, was given the honor of opening the bi-annual congress which this year celebrated its largest-ever attendance: “We’re victims of our own success,” he joked on noting that the tutorials, which featured presentations and debates on important topics, took place in full lecture halls.
Renato Sabbatini, the President of the Congress, announced 3 major projects which the SBIS embarked upon this year and plans to consolidate in 2012:
1. Certification of electronic health record systems, a program being implemented in association with the Federal Council of Medicine in Brazil.
2. The professionalization project for Healthcare Information Technology, Protics, aimed at training professionals to specialize in this area, inspired by models such as HIMMS, AMIA and the IMIA.
3. The beginning of a transition project for SBIS activity, as it was created as a purely academic association and is currently seeking to become a professional association as well, thus extending its reach.
