Apps offer a level of flexibility that has a direct effect on the way people use of them, making them important tools during treatment. This is one of the trends noted by Antoine Geissbuhler, President of the International Medical IT Association, who was speaking at the inauguration of the 13th Brazilian Congress on Health Information Technology – CBIS 2012, which began on Monday the 19th November, finishing on Friday the 23rd at Expo Unimed Curitiba in Paraná.

The event was organized by the Brazilian Health Information Technology Society (SBIS) and involved around 600 participants.

“Given the new ways in which we can access knowledge, a new relationship of trust must be built between patients and healthcare professionals,” said Geissbuhler emphasizing the current need to have reliable information on web 3.0, the semantic web. “This is a non-profit association, certified with a stamp, the HonCode, that provides editorial content from reliable websites with no economic interests,” he explained. With regard to home care, the Executive said that in a connected home patients could be treated in different environments with personalized, integrated service. “This market is growing as the market ages… It is important to establish guidelines for the use of all applications, with integration and development from administrators from the rest of the world.

The IMIA, based in Geneva, is an association made up of other associations from 68 countries, with the involvement of 120 academic institutions, adding up to a total of 50 thousand professionals.
