At the 17th National Congress on Health IT (Inforsalud 2014), held in Madrid, the Comarcal de Inca Hospital presented an IT project that interacts with Electronic Health Records (EHR) to help nursing staff.
The IT solution, which will be implemented at the Hospital on the Balearic Islands, will provide electronic reports on the tasks that the nurses should carry out and their order of priority. Activities will be organized by medical prescription.
For example, when a professional requests an urgent diagnostic test or prescribes a modification to a patient’s medication, the nurse will receive a warning on their computer screen. This alert will remain active until the task is carried out.
So the initiative will facilitate communication between doctors and nurses to improve patient safety and reduce time spent in hospital units. In addition, it will make it possible to prevent errors and omissions in the data uploaded to the EHR at Comarcal Hospital which uses applications such as the Clinical Decision Making Support System.
The proposal was presented by the Nursing Supervisors at the Comarcal de Inca Hospital, Victoria Ramis and Zaira Rodriguez, and the heads of the IT Department, Ramón Riba and Antoni Colombás.
