After touring El Cruce-Néstor Kirchner High Complexity Network Hospital, located in Florencio Varela, the head of the Panamerican Health Organization (PHO) stated that the institution’s healthcare structure “could be a model for the region”.

Furthermore, Carissa Etienne said that she would like to take it as a case study to share with other countries. And she added: “I’m considering the possibility of bringing professionals from different countries to see what is being done here”.

Visiting the country for a Meeting between healthcare ministers from Argentina and the Caribbean, which was held in Buenos Aires last week, the official toured the hospital along with the Vice-Minister for Health of the Nation, Eduardo Bustos Villar, and the PHO’s representative in Argentina, Pier Paolo Balladelli.

Accompanied by the hospital’s director, Arnaldo Medina, Etienne toured the imaging diagnostic department, the pediatric intensive care units, the gastroenterology and hemodynamics units, the critical patient admission service, the outpatient ward and the patient management area. She also watched a demonstration of the modern processes used to supply medications.

“It is very important to me to see the networks of integrated services. I am very impressed with the primary healthcare center, where those responsible for the services explained how they work with the community and the level and quality of care they are providing”, the PHO official said.

Etienne believes that this aspect of the El Cruce Hospital could also be replicated across other countries in the Americas. She thus intends to present it at the PHO headquarters in Washington.

Finally, she noted that she “is very impressed with the level of services in a municipality on the outskirts” of the capital.

The El Cruce-Néstor Kirchner High Complexity Hospital is a nexus in the healthcare network in the region, made up of the Mi Pueblo Hospital in Florencio Varela; Evita Pueblo Hospital in Berazategui; Arturo Oñativia Hospital in Almirante Brown; and Isidoro Iriarte Hospital and the Specialized Mother and Infant Subzone Hospital in San Francisco Solano (Quilmes).
