The Ministry of Health has implemented Electronic Health Records in order to provide a reliable, ordered, secure and up to date health record for patients and professionals.

Furthermore, the measure includes the Digital Signature; certification that verifies that the digitalization was implemented correctly and safely, in a legitimate manner.

The director of the Digital Signature Institute, Marcos Hauría, said: “The fact that San Luis is advancing with the digitalization of patients’ health records ensures that each citizen will be the protagonist and owner of their health information.”

The objective of the project is the integration of all the hospital centers. So the Dr. Juan Gregorio Díaz Hospital will join the other health centers in San Luis that implement the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

“The resolution guarantees that every inhabitant of the Province of San Luis will have access to their EHR, so they must be implemented in every health center, both private and public, regardless of the complexity of the establishment,” Teresa Nigra, Minister of Heath for San Luis, told E-Health Reporter.

The Province of San Luis has 207 public establishments and 107 private ones; all of these must adopt the Electronic Health Record.

According to Nigra, the quality of medical care and the doctor patient relationship will be improved by faster and simpler access to clinical information.

“Although the 22 integrated centers have their own form of healthcare administration, all of them function on a network with regard to EHR,” Aníbal Carmona, President of Unitech, the company that supplied the system, explained to E-Health Reporter.

With regard to the possibility of applying a single EHR throughout the country, Nigra said: “From an administrative point of view, first a decision is required so that we can work of key aspects such as connectivity, security infrastructure, training and awareness, and political determination.”
