The government of Miranda, Venezuela, has launched its “Su Salud” service. The pilot scheme is aimed at introducing some patients’ health records into a digital database.
At first, the service will only be open to public employees, officials, the police and firemen but, as the coordinator of Miranda Heath, Gustavo Villasmil said, the aim is to extend it to all the 3 million inhabitants of the State.
To ensure that this service functions more practically, cards and papers will not be used. The access code to the electronic health record and the registration code will be each patient’s identity card number.
The digitalization of this data will allow doctors to access the network and thus get to know patients’ needs.
Furthermore, among other benefits, this healthcare reform will make it possible to determine whether a patient is requesting medications in more than one state. On this point, Villasmil stated that if the government of Miranda delivers medications to a person from another state, the government of that state will have to pay for them.
Finally, the coordinator of Miranda Health said that he would like patients’ data to be integrated with the Municipalities of Sucre, Metropolitan and the rest of the country. “I aspire to including Sanidad, Ipasme, the Military Hospital and other care centers in the same database,” he concluded.
