The Municipality of Mercedes, in Buenos Aires Province, has received the AHCIET award for best practice in e-Health for the implementation of an unified healthcare system, during the 14th Ibero-American Digital Cities Forum, held in Quito, Ecuador.

The award was given for the implementation of a system capable of unifying and administering patients’ medical information, bringing together health records, appointments, and ambulance services, among other functions.

“The objective of this service is to optimize patient care”, said Maximiliano Chisnerman, State Undersecretary for Reform and Modernization of the Municipality of Mercedes.

Chisnerman went on to note: “People are gradually accepting the new system, which includes multiple benefits, such as electronic health records, healthcare digitalization, netbooks in ambulances – making it possible to hold videoconferences with health centers and emergency rooms – and SMS alerts reminding people of appointments, to take their medication, and new check-ups.”

Furthermore, the integrated e-Health system includes the Municipal Services Card, which has a unique QR code for every citizen, making it possible for them to bring their health record with them wherever they are in the world. It is free and one simply needs a smartphone or a computer with a webcam to obtain it.
