HIMSS

On Thursday, April 10th, Dr. Karen DeSalvo, MD, MPH, MSc, the recently appointed National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, will participate in her first Capitol Hill briefing by providing opening remarks for a session on “The value of health data in transforming care using secure information to improve efficiency and quality.”

Big data and clinical and business intelligence offers tremendous hope for improving healthcare and the human condition, but only if public policy stays ahead of the technology.

Panelists will discuss the rapidly increasing volume of health and healthcare data, and address public policy issues relative to using that data to improve quality of care and clinical outcomes.

Also, on Wednesday, April 16th, panelists from some of the nation’s leading organizations will gather to discuss “Telehealth – implementation barriers in Rural and Urban America.” The future of telehealth is one of the more timely and critical health issues of the day.

Gary Capistrant, Senior Director of Public Policy at the American Telemedicine Association, Mary Zelazny, CEO, at Finger Lakes Migrant &Community Health and Nancy Vorhees, Chief Operation Officer at Inland Northwest Health Services.
