Seeking to improve the healthcare of its inhabitants, the Island of Taiwan is to incorporate an Electronic Health Record (EHR) network that will be available at 500 hospitals and 20,000 clinics.
The announcement was made at a meeting of the Permanent Central Committee of the Kuomintang Party, which was attended by President Ma Ying-Jeou and the Minister of Health and Social Wellbeing Chiu Wen-ta.
“Making use of advances in ICTs in Taiwan, the establishment of electronic health records at every medical institution in the country is planned for next year,” said the Minister of Health and Social Wellbeing.
Today, the independent state has 8.8 doctors for every 10 thousand inhabitants in mountainous and/or remote areas. In the central cities, in contrast, the ratio is 18.03 per 10 thousand people.
Chiu Wen-Ta said that the initiative arises from a project that integrates information and communication technologies with public healthcare systems.
