Ranked as one of the largest health information technology conferences in the United States, the Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition provides attendees with educational offerings and an interactive exhibit floor to prepare them for current industry challenges. The more than 300 education sessions cover topics that include economic stimulus, globalization, and regulatory compliance. In addition, sessions and exhibits focus on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act including meaningful use, quality, certification, interoperability plus effective techniques for negotiating health IT contracts.  Each year, the conference attracts physicians, nurses, pharmacists, software developers and other health IT professionals from around the globe who are interested in these topics and making the transition from paper to digital medical records.

The current economic environment was top-of-mind when HIMSS conducted a thorough examination of potential sites to host the anticipated attendance and needed exhibit space in 2012. HIMSS President and CEO H. Stephen Lieber and other staff toured locations and spoke with city and convention officials in both Chicago and Las Vegas, the contenders for the 2012 meeting.

“The selection of Las Vegas for HIMSS12 gives the Society the necessary components to host a successful conference,” said H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, HIMSS President/ CEO. “We made the selection based on specific input from our members and exhibitors and our lengthy discussions with both cities. Las Vegas demonstrated and committed to the unified cooperation of the Sands Expo Convention Center, the hotels, and the city so that HIMSS can provide our members and attendees with a productive and economical experience.”
