MV offers a wide range of healthcare solutions to many different healthcare-related businesses: hospitals, healthcare plan operators, healthcare secretariats, basic healthcare units (UBS), emergency units, specialized care centers (CAE), and diagnostic and pharmaceutical care centers. The company has more than 750 employees in Brazil and at the beginning of 2012 entered the Chilean market with the opening of an affiliate office and a partnership with the company Upgrade.  

 

EHEALTH REPORTER LATIN AMERICA: What products did you present at Hospitalar?

Marcos Sobral: We presented an exhibition on trends and new developments in applications for smartphones, tablets and handheld devices in the field of healthcare. Our stand featured a display of our complete systems platform, especially our new system for electronic health records, which provides hospitals with greater flexibility to manage their patients’ information.  

EHRLA: What improvements does the product feature?

MS: Our platforms include software for smartphones with alerts, reports and a lot of hospital information that can be accessed from an iPhone or an iPad. We have also developed mobile electronic monitoring equipment.  

EHRLA: What does a hospital get with MV solutions?

MS: Our company develops solutions for both the clinical and financial departments. We work with a complete ERP that covers everything from patient care and hospital admittance to costs, results and strategic planning; in short – all the activity that takes place in a hospital can interact with the more than 50 modules in the system.  

EHRLA: So if an institution acquires an MV system it can be sure that it won’t encounter problems with interoperability?

MS: The MV system administers information from every hospital department, except human resources.

EHRLA: But can it be integrated?

MS: Yes, we integrate with all the companies on the market.

EHRLA: What is MV’s share of the Brazilian market? 

MS: No research into companies’ percentage share of the healthcare market in terms of number of clients exists, but we are the largest administration systems company in the sector in terms of income. In 2011 we received an income of R$ 100 million and today we have over 500 clients all over the country.

EHRLA: What does the opening of the new affiliate in Chile mean for the company’s plans for expansion?

MS: We are increasingly in a process of expansion, it is our strategic objective to be leaders in Latin America. We are seeking to expand our presence in Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico. The opening of our office in Chile represents the first stage in making the sale of our systems viable in that country. In systems the most notable component we have to offer is the new electronic health record system, which is 100% paperless and is certified for quality, security and more.  

EHRLA: Are there functioning examples?

MS: Yes, in Brazil there are three hospitals that operate entirely without paper: Hospital Sabará, UPA Imbiribeira and the Hospital Unimed Recife III. They are very bold initiatives. They are completely secure, meaning that operations never break down, they are always available.

EHRLA: How does MV achieve this level of security?

MS: There are technical security specifications called NGS2 which ensure that we have dual systems for communication and data application software that ensure that the system never crashes. It is the same philosophy as that used by planes, where systems cannot crash even when there is a fault as another system comes online to maintain operations.
