The selection of this subject is due to the fact that in spite of the major progress achieved with regard to connectivity, this has not been matched by greater semantic integration: as long as there are different physical lines connecting each agent, they will continue to speak different ‘languages’.

So, not only in our region but throughout the world, transferring an electronic health record is still very often an enormously difficult process.

Many factors contribute to the situation including terminology, data structure, different levels of computerization and competence, etc.

Several different speakers; Argentine, Brazilian, Uruguayan and Chilean experts, will explore and debate these issues, which are part of the program of the Congreso Argentino de Informática y Salud (Argentine Congress on IT and Healthcare), to be held at the Universidad de La Plata at the end of the month.
