HIBA

The American Medication Information Association (AMIA) and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) shared their annual reports at the 8th HIBA Academic Congress on Healthcare Information Systems 2013.

Damián Borbolla, head of the Clinical IT Department Area at the Health IT Department at the Hospital Italiano in Buenos Aires, presented AMIA’s Year in Review, a report that the Scientific Program Committee of the American Congress has published for the last eight years.

The review includes scientific publications containing important results in Medical IT and was edited by Doctor Daniel Maysis, a Professor at the University of Washington.

Among the wide range of research carried out during 2013, Borbolla emphasized the works regarding issues related to infectious diseases, management of medications, diagnostics, behavior, patient safety and reduction of costs. He explained the content, methods and objectives of each topic using actual case studies with patients and healthcare professionals – who were analyzed in several different countries.

In addition, Doctor Daniel Luna, head of the Health IT Department at HIBA, offered an advance look at the report by the Pan-American Health Organization, called “Interoperability and standards in Latin America”.

“The main objective was to offer recommendations to achieve interoperability in e-Health in the region and to draw up a conceptual framework for interoperability and e-Health in general”, he said.

As one of the authors of the report, he said that the publication would be focused on decision makers in the sector.

Mauro García, a resident doctor in Health IT at HIBA, spoke about the strategy used in several stages during the work: recovering standards used at the local level and validating the standards and execution of reading and bibliographical research.

The Head of the Department of Health IT said that the report is still being edited and will be available next semester.
