The Panamerican Health Organization/World Health Organization (PHO/WHO) in Argentina is joining the organizing committee of the Latin American Forum on Sustainable Development, a space that seeks to share experiences and propose ways of working together for a more sustainable planet.

The event will be held between the 22nd and the 24th of April in Rosario, Santa Fe, and is organized by the Municipality of Rosario. The city will host representatives of the municipality, members of civil and social organizations, academics, sustainable businesspeople and entrepreneurs, as well as activists for a more sustainable world. Its conclusions will be taken to the United Nations Conference RIO+20, to be held in the Brazilian city next June.

The issues to be explored during the forum will include technological innovations in sustainable development, climate change, new models for sustainable government to combat poverty and social exclusion, conservation and management of biodiversity and natural resources, new economies for sustainable societies, and ethics in sustainability.

The objectives of the meeting in Rosario are: to establish a point of reference for local, national and international institutions for the Rio+20 Earth Summit; to exchange and build, among several different sectors, possible alternatives for fairer, more inclusive and sustainable economies; to rethink and propose a new vision of local and world government; and to promote a process of intercultural and intergenerational diffusion, integration and participation in the issues working towards the creation of an ethic of sustainability in our society.

The meeting will begin on World Earth Day with a cultural event at the Monument to the Flag in Rosario. Stands with exhibitions on ecological foods, renewable energies, and organic horticulture will also be set up. In the evening the event will close with a show by bands which will play songs related to the concept of sustainability.

Over the following days, simultaneous events organized by those who apply and are approved by a committee made up of people with experience in the area will be held at different venues in the city (university faculties, schools, districts, and cultural centers).

So far over 200 NGOs, companies, and governments from different parts of America (including Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Brazil and Guatemala) have signed up to be part of the Latin American Forum for Sustainable Development.
